Local authorities to receive and consider complaints about member behaviour from 8 May 2008
The regulations which allow local authority standards committees to receive, and decide what to do about, complaints about the conduct of councillors locally will come into force on 8 May 2008.
The Department for Communities and Local Government laid The Standards Committee (England) Regulations 2008 before Parliament on 17 April 2008.
The Standards Board for England will provide toolkit guidance on the assessment of allegations, and a toolkit including template letters and notices on our website during the week beginning Monday 21 April, to allow time for authorities to adapt it for their use.
Our guidance on local assessment and standards committees will be available on our website as soon as possible in early May.
