Standards Board's conference season begins
The Standards Board for England is on the road this week to attend and run sessions at both the Conservative and Labour party local government conferences.
At the Conservative local government conference (1 March, Warwickshire), the Standards Board will be holding a session to show how high ethical standards can build public trust in local government.
It will also host a discussion, organised with the Improvement Development Agency (IDeA), at the Labour local government conference (2 March, Birmingham) on the importance of partnership working.
The Standards Board’s new Chief Executive, Glenys Stacey, is attending both events to meet stakeholders and those involved in standards locally.
Each year, the Standards Board speaks to thousands of people at conferences and exhibitions - sharing information, answering questions on the Code of Conduct, and getting feedback on its work.
The Standards Board will also be attending the following conferences:
- National Association of Local Councils (NALC) Conference 2008, 20-22 May 2008, Eastbourne
- Local Government Association (LGA) Conference and Exhibition 2008, 1-3 July 2008, Bournemouth
- Liberal Democrat party conference, 13-18 September 2008, Bournemouth International Centre
- Labour party conference, 21-25 September 2008, Manchester Central
- Conservative party conference, 28 September - 1 October 2008, International Convention Centre (ICC), Birmingham
You can also attend the Standards Board’s Seventh Annual Assembly of Standards Committees, which is the leading conference on all issues concerned with the Code of Conduct and improving standards.
The conference, aimed at monitoring officers, standards committee members and key figures in local government, will take place on 13 - 14 October 2008 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham.
It has been oversubscribed for the last few years and delegates are advised to book early. Details of how to book will be available from mid-March on www.annualassembly.co.uk.
Ends.
