Quarterly statistics
A key role of the Standards Board for England is to ensure the effectiveness of local standards arrangements. To do this we need to collect information about those arrangements on a regular basis. This information may result in us providing support and guidance to those authorities which are experiencing problems and, as a last resort, to remove the powers of a standards committee to receive complaints about members.
To do this we have developed an online form for monitoring officers of local authorities to complete on a quarterly basis. The forms that are submitted to us are known as ‘quarterly returns’. They contain questions about the standards committee and enable monitoring officers to inform us of any cases that have been handled locally.
The following statistics were compiled from data submitted on quarterly return forms, covering the period 8 May to 30 June 2008.
